Ben R. Luján grew up learning the time-honored traditions and respected values of rural New Mexico. He was born in Nambé, New Mexico, a historic farming community north of Santa Fe that is bordered by the pueblos of Nambé and Pojoaque.
As a young boy and teenager, Ben tended to the many chores and responsibilities that came with growing up on a small, rural family farm – many times waking before dawn to feed the livestock and to let flow the life-giving waters of the ancient acequias. He was raised in a working-class family by his parents, Ben Luján Sr., a union ironworker, and Carmen Luján, a public school employee.
While a student in high school Ben made sure to attend to his studies and also participate in sports activities. After graduating from high school he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from New Mexico Highlands University.
Today, Ben proudly continues the long-established, time-honored family traditions of his descendants. He lives in the small, centuries-old adobe home that was built by his great-grandparents on land that has been in the family for generations.
