Lujan Leadership Congressional Campaign Fellowship
Mission
Empowering today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders.
What it's about
The LLCCF is modeled on the Obama Organizing Fellowship from the summer of 2008. The LLCCF aims to add long-term value to the communities of Northern New Mexico by empowering high school and college students to engage political system. The students chosen to participate in the program attended a three-day training session where they learned political organizing techniques, relationship-building skills, the importance of ethics and building trust and their communities. They were able to meet and learn from campaign staff as well as political leaders, like Congressman Lujan, State Auditor Hector Balderas, and Mayor David Coss.
Goals
The LLCCF aims to give the leaders of the future a jump-start. The LLCCF participants may some day go on to run for office, start non-profits, and work to improve New Mexico. 2010 is the first year of the LLCCF, but Congressman Lujan, who believes that it is important to give young people and opportunity to get involved in the political system would like to make it an annual program. With support from the community, the congressman knows the LLCCF can help create future leaders for New Mexico.
The program is designed to give young people the opportunity become political organizers in their own communities, learn the skills that will help them achieve success in their careers, and to empower them wit opportunities to build relationships with each other, community leaders, and elected officials.
