In the midst of a financial shortfall that caused even its directors to be laid off, the Taos County Economic Development Corp. (TCEDC) has announced the receipt of a $275,000 federal grant. The local nonprofit, which operates programs including a food center, business incubator and Mobile Matanza, had to lay off most of its staff earlier this year due to a “funding gap.”
Co-director Pati Martinson said the receipt of the grant is
encouraging. “It’s almost half of our budget,” she said. The grant was one of many distributed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
