Ethics and Accountability
Ethics
When I was elected to the Public Regulation Commission, the body was mired in scandal. I helped to clean up the PRC by drafting a code of conduct for commissioners, replacing the insuranace superintendent and creating greater transparency with accessible public records. Because of the work I have done, documents are now available online for the public to access and all commissioners must agree to follow a strict code of conduct, assuring the highest level of transparency and ethics.
Congress must build on recent ethics reforms to create more openess and accountability for members of Congress. I support legislation that shines a light on the bidding process for government contracts and earmarks as well as a nonpartisan government watchdog with the power to investigate members of Congress.
Government Accountability
Every year billions of dollars are wasted in unaccountable government contracts. A lack of transparency and openess, as well as a broken bidding process and a lack of accountability once the contract is rewarded has resulted in billions of dollars in wasted government funding. This problem has only gotten worse with war contracting. We need to reform the process, increase transparency and track where every dollar goes to make sure no one is abusing their federal contract. If we're going to get our economy back on track and put families first, we have to make sure that every tax dollar is well-spent.
